Virgin Racing has announced its takeover of the Manor team, and also confirmed Lucas di Grassi as its second driver alongside Timo Glock. Alvaro Parente will be the team’s test driver.
Di Grassi was runner up in the 2007 GP2 championship, and 3rd in 2009. He was formerly the test driver for Renault, and participated in the Jerez young driver test earlier this month.
“I could never have imagined a debut as perfect as this one,” said di Grassi. “And I believe I am ready for F1. I have worked a lot over the years to get here and I believe it happened just in time. Being here with them makes more sense to me than to be with a veteran organisation. We will debut together, and that detail makes for a special bond too. I am ready to work 24/7 and I am sure I will be able to contribute to the team’s efforts in every stage of our evolution in 2010.”
